Living in Delta

Do you enjoy long walks on the beach? Close proximity to nature? Farmers Markets? Closely knit community? Biking on trails? Incredible views of mountains and lots of local amenities? If so, living in Delta is for you.

You'll hear a lot about the weather here. One of the sunniest and driest spots in the Lower Mainland, the suburban municipality of Delta is home to approximately 100,000 people living in the communities of Tsawwassen, Ladner and North Delta. These three BC communities are as rich and alive as the name 'Delta' implies: rich in natural resources, history and industry, and in the people who live there.

Located in the southwest corner of the Lower Mainland, Delta is bordered on the south by Point Roberts, USA and on the east by Whiterock and the City of Surrey. The name itself is derived from the fact that the community is located to the north at the rich river delta of the mighty Fraser.

Ladner and Tsawwassen are quiet, rural and relaxed, yet conveniently located only minutes away from the BC Ferries Tsawwassen Terminal, 30 minutes from Vancouver International Airport and the skytrain, 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver, and 40 minutes from the Peace Arch International Border Crossing at Blaine, Washington.

The entire area is a naturalist’s delight as home to the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, the Lily Point Marine Reserve, the Earthwise Society and many other recreational and natural parks. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy Centennial Beach, and walk or bike along the dyke system; which is the perfect spot to see Mount Baker and the Coastal Mountain range.

Tsawwassen is home to Southpointe Academy, ranked number five in the Fraser Institute's annual school performance review in 2009. Southpointe is an independent school with enrollment from pre-school to Grade 12. With a Cambridge educated Headmaster and CEO, Mr. Graham Baldwin, Southpointe seeks to ensure that their students continue to post-secondary studies and provides a highly skilled teaching staff, small class sizes and  a variety of enrichment activities. Rigourous academic excellence combined with open minded creative thinking  produces the exceptional results on which Southpointe prides itself.

There is a well-preserved sense of rural living in Delta. Ladner takes pride in its early heritage of farming and fishing. Many of the buildings in the area reflect this early era. Single-family dwellings predominate in prestigious Tsawwassen, along with low-rise townhouses and apartments, and beautiful waterfront homes.

Surrounded on three sides by water, the lifestyle in Delta is relaxed and comfortable. People who live in Delta love its slower pace, proximity to a huge number of recreational activities, amenities, location and fine sense of community.
