Whether it’s visiting a local coffee shop, browsing boutiques, cycling along the dyke system or taking in one of the annual outdoor movie nights, Tsawwassen has something for everyone – especially in the unique beach communities of Boundary Bay and Beach Grove.
Spending a summer’s afternoon making sand castles and swimming in sun warmed shallows, stopping at the concession for fish and chips, watching the colourful kiteboarders and windsurfers, or exploring the wide expanse of the sandy beach at low tide - the Bay is a special place to be. During low tide, the bay's sandy bottom has small pools of reflective water trapped in sandy depressions. Stroll far out at low tide to the international boundary marker where aquatic life is revealed in the pools and the sand. You can walk so far out into the bay that mists rising off the sand obscure the horizon. Later in the day sit back and watch the setting sun illuminate Mount Baker’s glacier; the most visible landmark on the horizon. After dark, the Bay is a wonderful place for star gazing. This diverse coastal landscape is rich in intertidal eelgrass beds, marshes and mudflats, and as such provides a significant habitat for fish and birds. It is one of the most important stops on the Pacific Flyway. More than 250,000 birds pass through the area each spring and fall. Together with the annual salmon migration in the nearby Fraser River, this north-south passage is one of the most exciting natural events in the region. There are many good viewing points for birding along the 20 kilometre dyke system, called the Boundary Bay Regional Trail. There is a significant range of housing options in Boundary Bay and Beach Grove, from low key bungalows to high end waterfront properties. Allow me to introduce you to this very special place. | |||||||||||||||||||||
